ADHD Awareness Month!

The Non Intentional
(but Sometimes Intentional) Gaslighting

- Now This Might Trigger People but Allow Me to Explain.

If you feel that either yourself or child may have ADHD you will have many people try to convince you it’s all in your mind - unfortunately including professionals. Not all people and professionals but some.

Often terms like :-

“ don’t be silly , your overthinking “

“Why havnt you noticed this before , is it a new fad?”

“ they / you are are fine why are you so keen to have a label?”

“ doesn’t everybody do that ? Why does it have to be more dramatic with you?”

“ don’t use this an excuse for certain types of behaviour “

“ it’s just because of their sexuality”

“ don’t excuse rudeness with a condition”

“What difference would it make ? You’ve lived this long without it ?”

And believe me many many more.

I’ve had a fair few flung at me and I hold my hands up , before I made a conscious decision to do loads of research myself , I even may have said something similar in the past.

I’m saying this because its really common that people don’t get the correct support and diagnosis because they are so worried that people will shun them or their children.

It’s a really BIG thing for our culture to be more informed so that our world can be more inclusive and understanding with significantly better over all well-being with better conditions to support people.

If you notice you are being gaslit and or in fear of having the diagnosis it’s really important to reach out and connect to people who support and understand.

Huge love
